At the meeting of the European Society for Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience I got to present our newest findings on daily fluctuations in sex hormones and psychological well-being. We hope to submit these results for publication soon!
On May 17, 2024 Nicole Montijn successfully defended her thesis on the role of episodic future thinking in anxiety
April 2024 presenting work at ADAA meeting in Boston on how cortisol, hormonal contraception and childhood trauma all interact on prognostic depressive symptoms in adolescents. On November 2nd Emma defended succesfully her PhD thesis at Utrecht University. I was very happy to be part of her supervisor team.
At the ISPNE conference in London I received the early scholar award based on our work on the effect of oral contraceptives on stress reactivity and prospective mood in the RADAR cohort.
From the Dynamics of Youth research hub we received funding to further unravel the role of oral contraceptives on mood and stress regulation in adolescence. Collaboration with Pedagogical Sciences (Dr.Stefanie Nelemans) and Veterinary Sciences (Dr. Marijke Achterberg).
A group of thesis students conducted the Trier Social Stress Test and found increased stress responses in naturally cycling women compared to men and women on hormonal contraceptives
Our article that was recently accepted for publication in the Journal of Alzheimer's disease has been selected by the editor.
We investigated and compared the two main hypotheses that could explain the relation between depression and dementia; vascular and glucocorticoid hypotheses. We only found weak evidence for the vascular hypothesis.
A group of thesis students ran a cool experiment in which they studied what the effect was on a walk through nature on mood and stress regulation
Together with Dr. Mirjam Geerlings, Dr. Sanne Peters and professor Lenore Launer we received funding from Alzheimer NL to study the sex differences in dementia incidence. We will identify what biological mechanisms explain that men are more likely to get Vascular dementia, whereas women are more likely to develop Alzheimer's disease.
